Re: Selling Stock Photography Stock Photo License- New educational resource for stock buyers

>>>Thoughts?

Well - it is a big bite to chew. Copyright as we know it, was "invented" when everything copyrighted was something physical, as a paper photo, a gramophone record, or a painting. Now the entire playing field have changed, but some moguls have built billion dollar businesses around that old copyright concept, and they don't want to see the businesses go away, and a side effect is that the little guy as us photographers get trampled in the process.

Then we have the electronics and the global village. If the naughty guy in, say, Cambodia, steals your work, what do you do, or more correctly, what can you do?

Many countries are now changing the copyright laws so anyone can use any picture on a private web page, as Facebook, regardless of any copyright. It is considered to be the same as the old scrap book, when you cut out a picture from a magazine and kept it.

So what can we do, and which copyright, where, for what, and how to enforce it?

Hey Group,

We recently launched a new educational website called Stockphotolicense.com to help image buyers, researchers and photographers learn more about images copyright and licensing matters. Stock Photo License provides a framework for making informed licensing decisions and stock photo purchases, and highlights online resources that can help protect against legal pitfalls.

>From our press release,

"Stockphotolicense.com, an educational copyright resource for photo buyers and researchers, launches their new website today with the goal of explaining in simple terms how one can use an image online and the various legal complexities of digital image use. The site provides detailed information on image license types, photo copyright issues, legal protections and extensions, using free images, Creative Commons, personal vs. commercial use and provides a list of questions you can ask your image suppliers before you buy an image."

If anyone is interested in working together on this project in any capacity please let me know. I believe we need more education and awareness surrounding image use and how to legally use an image you find online. Pleading ignorance isn't a good excuse anymore for why someone used an image without a license in the future. This website will hopefully educate and explain legal image use and how to protect oneself.
