Hi,
I use a 1988 Dodge Caravan with a 2.5L 4 cylinder with an automatic and
160,000 original miles. Took out the 2nd and 3rd row seats. I fit my Caravan
Classic canopy and hinged peg board, which create 2 8' long x6' high walls
to hold framed work. I also load in 2 folding print bins, 2 folding 6'
plastic tables, 2 director chairs, cooler for food, weights and 3 tubs &
milk crates holding loose
matted prints and 16 framed/mounted pieces.
It has survived a close encounter with a very large dear, needs a paint job,
wind shield, struts and now AC. Starts up every day and taken us back forth
to New Orleans. Jackson and Baton Rouge for the last 3 years. Oh yea; don't
forget the little leak over the steering wheel when it rains and needs a
wiper as the passenger side one broke during the snow storm in February. Did
I mention the head lights and the radiator are held on with picture frame
wire 0and dry wall screws; thanks to the deer and the bulbs are held in
place with duck tape. I do get 20 miles to a gallon and use about a quart of
oil a month and 2 quarts of tranny fluid every 2 weeks.
This amazing van is for sale as a great project for some creative back yard
mechanic. If you want to see it we'll be at the Yellow Leaf Festival this
weekend on Saint Francisville, LA. It's within our safe driving zone now of
60 miles one way. As long as you keep about a gallon of tranny fluid in the
back along with 5 gals of water and a couple of quarts of oil you can go any
where:-)))))
Seriously all of the above is true. It has never broken down on a road trip
but we only go no more than 60 miles if we have to go out of
town. I've had full size vans; a GMC G-10, Extended chassis Ford Econoline
and a Dodge Tradesmen. I love the mini vans and we're
looking at a new mini van or crossover SUV for 2012. We traveling lighter
these days and doing shows no more than 200 miles one way. We'll be retiring
the Caravan in a couple months for a 1988 Toyota Mini Van that has had only
one owner. I will either scrape the Caravan or turn it into an art car
project since the engine is very good. Most of what I do is transport art to
my studio to shoot for other artist and pick up computers to repair or
upgrade.
I'll get a v6 engine when we buy the new vehicle in 2012. The 4cyl is great
around town and a quick trip to Baton Rough or new Orleans
with a light load of art work but I'll need more power for the 2012 art
season road trips as I'm finally getting my pro panels.
We'll that's my experience with mini vans.

I use a 2006 Honda Odyssey with a Trimline Flourish and mesh panels. I've
seen others use older Odysseys, which are smaller, with a LightDome and 6'
ProPanels. My set up usually has two French panels in addition to the
perimeter walls.
