Since no one else has answered I'll give it a crack.
I have not done this show myself, since it is a whole week
long show. However I looked into it. I asked several Dallas
artists I know who have done the show about their experience.
There is a lot of corporate money spent at this show. Consultants
walk the show and later bring corporate buyers back. Big money
is spent at this show. That's the good news. The bad news is
if you don't get a good position you get over looked. They seem
to give the best positions to the old timers grandfathered in.
First timers get stuck in the dead ends and odd spots.
You cannot accept payment from the customer. You write up
the sales and send the customer to their payment booth. They take
payment and send the customer back with a receipt so you can give
the art work over to the customer. They deduct their commission
and rebate the rest to you at end of show. They take care of sales taxes.
So you are not only paying a booth fee but also a commission. You do
not use your own tent but one of their "sheds". Or perhaps I could say
"shelters" These are an odd size and you will need to flexable and
modify your set up. If you get lucky and get a good spot, you can do very
well. Otherwise it might not be worth the trip. Be prepared for weather,
an entire week in Oklahoma in the spring means at least one T-storm
and their "shelters" are bound to leak.
