Re: [artshow_photo] Re: New Mac Computer

Hi Sarah,

Guess it makes no difference which way you go. Just ask Santa and let him choose.(:-) The biggest thing is to make sure you get allot of memory, 4+ gig min. and I would go for 8 gig with the programs you require. Otherwise the real choice is bang for the buck.

As a FYI! I have a five year old PC with a first gen duel core AMD chip and upgraded to Win 7 64 bit last fall. No blue screen as of yet, running 24/7, so I don't really think operating system makes any real basis for selection. The only problem I had was last spring the system hard drive died, but I always plan ahead and initially cloned my main drive to a new one last fall and periodically if I install new programs, using Acronis True Image, so all I needed to do was install the cloned drive for the dead one and back in business. I always use my main C: drive for all system and program installations and then use additional physical drives for my data. I also have a 4 gig DROBO for back up and use NTI Shadow which does a background copy of any changed files. Like others have mentioned, on another post, drives are cheap so making clones of your data drives for backup is a great and necessary function for peace of mind. Also keeping a copy off premises is
a requirement. So I currently have four copies of my data files. Barring a nuclear war I feel safe. Looking at using the web for backup also which would allow access from around the world if necessary. Kind of got off topic but these are things you should also consider at this point while upgrading.

With everyone's suggestions that were been made guess your choice is as clear as mud, and at this point I would go with what your instincts tell you. No matter what you choose doing away with XP should be a blessing.

Dave

Hi Dave,

Thank you for your thoughts. I have a Mac laptop already and the OS is no real barrier for me. Anything to avoid another "blue screen of death"...

Best,

Sarah
