Good point, Michael. Windows 7 was a serious improvement. We still
have BSOD's here at work, but that is mainly due to incompatibility of
different hardware manufacturers (i.e. high-end cameras and microscope
stage controllers) trying to support the 64-bit platforms (and the
software was written for the standard 32-bit platform) (Most BSOD's,
nowadays, happen when a hardware device is polling something in the
computer program and is accessing an invalid memory space).
However, since Sarah is comfortable with the Mac's and she likes it, I
personally would recommend to go with whatever makes you happy and
comfortable. In the end, the computer, like everything else, is just a
tool to get your work done faster and easier.
I would recommend, though, getting a 64-bit machine (which I think
almost all new machines are). This allows you to access a larger
address space, which in turn allows the loading of extremely large
images fast.
