Yes, blogging and creating an online identity is certainly a good idea (btw, who does not already do that these days?). But you have to have a purpose for doing it. One example is what I've been doing for some time here: http://wine-pictures.blogspot.com/ driving traffic mostly to http://www.bkwinephotography.com/. The blog also serves some other purposes too.

-- That, however, is quite far fetched and very unlikely. It is very difficult to make any significant amount of money on advertising. Either you have to have very large numbers of visitors (and as a photographer you won't). Or you have to be in a very specific niche and sell your own advertising, which is a big job in itself. That's at least my experience of this. Perhaps you have other experiences.
