This will occur regardless of whether, or how, the U.S. and world economies recover. In addition, many more people will produce and try to license stock images. As a result, the average shooter will earn much less from stock than is the case today."

Well, duh, because most people are "average" shooters, and there are lots more out there as time goes on. Don't be average.

I'm not so sure that licensing will go up, Sean, more and more images are becoming a commodity and a means to an end. Networking is the future and if you could give your images away for free and make twice as much money and have more long-term security, would you do it?

People tend to freak out when I say this but I would rather have a link in than a few dollars because the link in will pay me more in the long run and in the future it looks like networking and traffic will be even more important than they are now.

Just look at our economy right now: Multinational corporations are making record profits while the little guy gets squeezed. The key is to take advantage of that and IMO, the way to do that is to follow the flow of money. These big corporations need to advertise and the new technology makes it possible for them to advertise on MY blog, or yours.

Now if you have a good thing going with traditional stock photography or micro, more power to you, but there is much more money in Google (5 billion + in Adsense payouts per year) than in the entire stock photography industry and Google is just part of the advertising industry. If you were a top flight photographer you could probably be sponsored by a camera company or some other business that fits your niche. Along the way you can still be selling prints and image licenses.
