[artshow_photo] Second Display w/ Mac, Calibration Woes

I have the old Dell LCD monitor that I used with my Dell PC. I am now trying to use it as second, external display with my MacBook Pro.

I bought a DVI to VGA converter to use it with my Mac laptop. Everything is swell, except for one problem:

Even after calibrating both the laptop screen and the LCD display to the same settings (6500K, 2.2 gamma), the LCD monitor is noticeably darker than the native laptop display. I can totally tell a difference when I drag the same image file acros 10.6.5s the two displays. Colors themselves seem to be in the ballpark (there is no skewed color temperature difference between the two displays). It's just that the large, external LCD monitor is too dark.

Any suggestions?

I'm using an old Gretag MacBeth set up, Eye One Match 3. When it finishes running, it confirms the settings as being right on target. I did download the current drivers for Mac OS X 10.6.5. FWIW, I had good results using this LCD monitor with my Windows PC right up until the last moment I used it on the PC today, so I don't think it is a hardware fault.

Thanks!
