I would like to switch over to square but have 2 things in my way.
I don't have an iphone, I have an ipod touch. I have an ipad, but it's wifi not 3G. Most fairs are outdoors and do not offer any internet access. Unless they come out with the ability to save transactions to be processed later, I wont be able to use it most of the time.
I've been to 2 events where there were other vendors using square. Both times they've each lost at least one sale that I noticed becuase of not being able to get the program to work properly.
I'm really looking forward to using square in about 1-2 years once they've made a few updates and I finally suck it up and get a smart phone despite the extra $30 a month data plan.

I'm not sure where, but I read that the limit expires over time. They
don't want someone to come along and get a Square and commit a rash of
credit card fraud with it, but building up to several hundred dollars a
day would not result in funds being held. It would make sense that a
steady pattern of usage would be recognized as legitimate and really
spiky usage would be seen as potentially problematic. Alas, exactly the
same pattern would match someone using it intermittently for shows.
Someone that did shows every weekend shouldn't have any problem, other
than the first three or four shows of each year.
Alas, if it takes a week to contact them it might not be the best system
to use for something as critical as card processing.
