[artshow_photo] Re: Anyone using Carbonite for back up?

IHi all,

I have been using Carbonite for about 8 months now and here are my comments.

I store my data on Carbonite, on an external USB drive(s), and on DVDs. So I have about three copies. Right now I have about 300GB of data that I back up. I have other data stored externally that I do not access often but save it just in case.

Carbonite does take time to backup. Particularly large files in the GB region. It does a quicker job with smaller files.

Carbonite folks will keep any old deleted files for 30 days. During that time if you need any of those deleted files you can get them back.

It is fairly easy to restore files. I recently had my C;/ hard drive go bad and I had to restore all the files on it. This took about 4 days for my 80 GB of data on that drive. Not constant on but I was doing other things on my system which I turned restore function off while I did those other things.

I think Carbonite is good when you don't have that much data to back up. I am going to continue to use it but I am also going to increase my number of USB external hard drives that I back up on. To back up and restore from them is much quicker. Maybe eventually I will switch over completely to external hard drives, but until then, I will let Carbonite just cook away.
