RE: [artshow_photo] Re: Year #1 - what I learned!

You might check if those folks did 'jury in' their jewelry. If they didn't,
I'd ask for my entry to be returned; I hope you'll follow-up with your
letter.

Indeed, my first show that I did a couple weeks ago- was the QUEEN WEST ART
CRAWL here in Toronto. It's supposed to be primarily fine art, and that's
what it is advertised as. On the application it states that you cannot sell
anything other than the art for which you applied... yet my brothers noted
that they saw booths selling their art plus jewelry and knick-knacks
(unrelated). As well as the booths selling only jewelry. The entry fee was
almost $200 plus tent rental and upon further thought, I'm a bit miffed that
I could have sold my own jewelry and perhaps made SOME money.

I know it's not all about making money, but you guys are absolutely right in
terms of the crowd that attends these things.

Perhaps I will write them a letter...

Barb. I appreciate the link. I have a ATT card to the internet that can link to my website for payments but it is time consuming. This looks much easier.

You can also get the payware app with your Iphone. The Square was charging 2.75% plus .15 cents per transaction on top of the credit card companies fees, also they hold any money's charged over $1000 in a week for 30 days. So if you are like me....I want my money deposited in my account right away not held for a month.....you have to build your charging services up before they'll raise the $1000 to a more realistic number. I'm sticking with payware and Heartland for my merchant accounts.

Hello All . . .

Just came across this review of a new cell phone credit card payment system in the NYT and thought it would be important for everyone to know about. It works with iPhones, iPads, iPod Touch and Android phones. It simplifies and transforms old credit card processing models and significantly reduces related costs.

By all means, check out both the review an the device's site itself:

[artshow_photo] Re: Year #1 - what I learned!

Aimee - definitely write a letter - too many people sit back and take it without voicing opinions. There is a difference between whining and serious complaints. Perhaps the organizers are too lazy, don't care or did not think others cared.

Give compliments when they are do and complain when it's do.

[artshow_photo] Re: Figuring out print costs

The Epson 3880, maybe a 4880 if we decide on wanting to do rolls, is what we are looking at getting. I was just on Epson's website looking around to see if there was anything listed with the specs about ink usage and I found this, "On-cartridge I.C. chip automatically tracks several ink usage data points for use in production cost estimations and reporting"

That's a handy little feature.

Re: [artshow_photo] Re: Figuring out print costs

You can see that the epson costs vary with the ink cartridge size, the 3880
uses 80 mL cartridges for example vs the small one on the 2400.

Hi Joe, While I certainly can't guarentee the accuracy of their report, I'll post a link to a study done by Red River Paper on costs of inkjet prints. Hope it gives you some food for thought. Have a great day.

Thanks for the mention, Rob! I also built a very large flippy bin for
30x40 mats awhile back. I don't have the plans posted, but I put up a
picture on my blog, from Summerfair a few years back, where I had the
room in the park to use it. It does take up a fair amount of floor
space. The hardest part is sewing the fabric loops in the canvas. In a
pinch, you could staple it, or use safety pins. If there's interest in
plans, email me offlist and I'll send you a drawing.

I'll jump in here... yes you can get clear bags in many standard
sizes. 20x30" is one of them. Matted 20x30's at 28x38 will fit a
larger size, but not exactly. Can't remember the dimensions.

You can use one of thePropanels or Armstrong folding bins -- the
largest ProPanel bin will hold up to 42".

A cheaper solution is a board with a couple of battens fastened to the
bottom, covered with a piece of carpet. Make the board 10-12" wide by
40" long, and tack an additional 3/4" x 3/4" strip across the long
edge to keep prints from sliding off. Set this on the ground, lean the
prints against a wall. Works for frames, too.
