Tend to agree with you. Improvements in CS5 and even CS4 started to equal Genuine Fractals. However the lated iteration called Resize has made what I consider a great improvement for canvas prints. THe older version used to mirror the edge but leave a white square in each corner. In other words it didn't take the mirror, or any edge to the full edge of the image size. That has been fixed/improved in the latest version.
That being said I use CS5 to do my sizing from a 'master image'. Since I print through Imageprint 8 (a great program worth investigating if you use Epson Pro printers) it has an edge/mirroring function in it that I use for canvas.
