Hi All,
Usually I just read, enjoy and learn from the myriad of posts to this group. This time, I have a question!
An author of children's books has asked if I would consider providing a photo for the front cover of her upcoming book. Regarding payment: "I can offer to pay you once my book shows a profit." The publisher (Finishing Line Press) requires a printed copy of the photo plus a JPG to keep on file. The photographer would receive credit in the book plus a reference to their website.
I have previously donated several photos, along with scores of other photographers, to an anthology that is currently in print "Paumanok: Poems and Pictures of Long Island". Perhaps I set a bad precedent. This, however, seems different to me because there's a single author and I would be providing the cover art.
If I even consider this, what should I request in terms of payment, legal rights, etc.?
Thanks,
Marlene Weinstein
