No! I am not taking 2011 off; I just got going in 2010! I started doing local
(North Texas) shows and have discovered that I really enjoy getting out there
and meeting potential clients and collectors. I enjoy the feedback I get as
they look at my images and have (very fortunately) made booth each show that I
have done. Each show, I have also met other photographer artists and enjoy
their input.
I think my greatest lesson of 2010 is that I need to "figure out" what my
personal style is going to be and not design to try to sell. I know that sounds
weird--but what I mean is, if one has a particular style to their work, then
they develop collectors who identify with that style/work and will seek out new
offerings. My approach as I started was to try to attract buyers--I don't think
that is an effective way to work--art is about passion. It's not that I am not
passionate about the pieces I currently have; but I am learning now what
techniques I like to do. Does that make sense.
In the meantime, I plan on doing as many shows in North Texas as I can in 2011!

Subject: [artshow_photo] Anyone taking 2011 off?
Is anyone going to take 2011 off from doing art shows due to the continued
stagnant U.S. economy?
