Not to play devil's advocate, but... I don't understand the moral problem
with double-applying for shows. If you have two distinct bodies of work,
and are legitimately applying in two categories, what is the problem?
I apply for some shows with mixed media work-and also with my digital work,
which is completely different-if the show is important to me and I want to
increase my chances for getting in. If one body of work makes it and the
other doesn't, then the winning work is what I bring to the show. A couple
of times I have juried in on both categories, and the show has let me hang
both bodies of work in the same booth; I have not had to have two separate
booths. I know a woman who is both a jeweler and an oil painter, and she
always applies in two categories. If the jewelry gets in, she brings the
jewelry. If the painting gets in, she brings the paintings. If both are
accepted, she brings both, if the show rules allow.
I honestly don't see the problem with trying to increase your chances to get
in a show, unless the show has a rule against applying in more than one
category. Most of the shows I've applied to allow it, if it is a separate
body of work and you are applying in a separate category, and you pay two
separate jury fees.
If the show organizers allow it, why should the jurors object? All this
talk of blacklisting just confuses me.
