I do not really understand the problem in applying twice for the same show.
Many artists are talented in more than one area, however I would not use
the same booth photo.
For example I am a hand weaver and also make jewelry, furthermore many
people think I should sell my photographs. Many shows have quotas/limits
for particular categories. For example there are a lot of jewelry people
and it can be very hard to be accepted in the jewelry category, however
quite often there are very few weavers.
Now I realize that you have been talking about artist offering two
photography categories. However once again if the show had tons of entries
for landscapes and this photographer offer both a landscape and HDR entry,
he stands a better chance of getting in, than if he only submitted the
landscape.
With all that said I have not ever submitted two offerings. For one thing
there is usually a charge for submissions plus the cost and time of putting
a submission together. While I think the chances of be accepted twice are
slim. It is too much work to set up one booth let alone two and again the
add expense of maintaining two booths and hiring someone to man it. Given
that I thing that probably this person is just trying to increase his
chances of being accepted. As long as he follows the rules of the show and
presents what he is accepted for I see no problem in submitting two choices.
By the way there are a few (very few) shows who have rules for artists who
do want to submit more than one entry. They usually tell the artist that
they have to submit an entirely separate submission for each category and
state that the artist cannot be accepted in more than one category.

Subject: RE: [artshow_photo] Multiple Entries
I would add that the LAST thing an artist wants is to get blacklisted from a
show...or worse. Promoters talk to each other, blacklisted from a region?
I may be the only one with this opinion, but I always apply with whatever
body of work I plan on showing, with an actual booth that I plan on showing
and with or without print racks exactly as I plan on showing. If that
prevents me from being in some shows, so be it. The last thing I need is to
have to keep track of multiple "personalities".
If multiple entries become the norm, shows will be invaded (some already
are) with artists who multiple entry concurrent multiple shows and send
representatives with fake IDs to all the "artist must be present" shows.
Playing around with the rules just produces more rules, which hurts everyone
attempting to make a living doing art festivals.
Weren't we just complaining about the show police?
JMHO,
Maria
