Rod, it is customary in Arizona and sometimes Nevada for the various
departments of revenue to walk art festivals in order to ensure everyone has
purchased the proper business license (temp or permanent) and to check on
sales taxes being collected.
In Scottsdale, Arizona (Fifth Avenue Show) I once was visited by the City of
Scottsdale and the Arizona State Dept of Revenue both. Yikes!
Both require that the vendor's license be displayed prominently by everyone
and they asked casual questions about how much tax I was collecting. When
filing taxes for an Arizona show, the state has "program" cities which get
their cut from the state and "non-program" cities which collect their own
taxes. When I was doing more shows in AZ I was filing monthly with the City
of Scottsdale, quarterly with the State, and I don't even live there.
Talk about a friggin' mess.
Aaahhh, the numbers the numbers.

Sorry - Any Revenue Depart get's grouped into one big bucket for me.
I was just surprised to hear that ANY Revenue Depart had that much free time
to do on the spot audits! Heck - if someone approached me at an Art Fair I
would think it was a Scam!
I'm interested if this has ever happened ANYWHERE else! Our new Governor
Scott Mr. Sneaky Pants Walker might start to do this!
