Interesting shot across the bow but really sounds like sour grapes. They write an app that would allow the person that has the square and a device, to scan the card that they were already given to run the transaction. Make sure I've got this right. The customer has already handed the person their card? We aren't talking about snatching it out of radio waves but handed it over?
Not much if any threat for face to face transactions. That's why in Europe they come to your table and the card never leaves your sight. The 'skimming' was typically done where you hand your card to someone and they leave your sight to go finish the transaction. Don't know about you but nearly every place I have dinner takes the card away to the back room. If skimming was a huge problem you would think that TeaMac and Verifone would be screaming just as loudly. Verifone would sell a whole bunch of wireless cardreaders ala Europe.
Me thinks they see the days of competition with a lower cost model raising its ugly head.
WAY TO GO SQUARE!!!!
