Hello,
I find this interesting in that all the CC companies are susceptible to
fraud in various ways and always have been. Square partner bank, JPMorgan
Chase is not new to CC processing and aware of the problems the industry
faces. I worked in CS for a well known Photo supplier in LA some years ago
and leaned quite early that if a customer called in a sales order or did an
online order and left out the 3 digit (4 with Amex) security code); I could
just make one up. All that was needed was for 2 out of 3 identifiers be
correct. Name, zip code phone number, billing address, state or city and it
what take what ever number I put in.
My rule is have separate card for my online and business transaction and
since I use PayPal/debit card a separate bank account just for PayPal. Fraud
lies with the card holder and hopefully our CC processor is on top of their
game.
The old boy CC companies are afraid of the new kid and it's rapid growth and
it's everyman approach. I remember being locked into unbreakable CC machine
leases but cause I didn't have A1 credit and paying for $65 a month on
lease plus the monthly discount fee and then airtime for my portable
terminal for a machine that was obsolete at the end of the lease an then
being told i still had to pay $1000 to own it. Technology changes and
criminals adapt to the opportunities to fleece us. So we have to do research
and hope the CC are paying attention.

This just in. TeaMac Inc. and Verifon are slamming The Square on security
issues. Not surprising given the rate at which The Square would appear to be
growing in popularity. Of course if there are security issues with The
