OK, Barbara, my two cents. First of all, I admire and respect your
commitment to your mother. Caring for an aging parent is not an easy job!
If you can afford to lose the $50 a month (not saying that you will, but...)
and you want a distraction and creative outlet from your daily life, I say
go for it.
If you cannot afford to lose $50 a month, then you should look very
carefully at the boutique space and talk to some of the other artists . Is
it month to month or are you committed to a long lease? Are there other
photographers there? Are the other artists selling well? What kind of
traffic does the space get (especially in such a small town?) Does it
attract any tourists?
I would skip the investment in the TV/video display, at least at first. I
think it might just distract visitors from looking at your prints, and it's
a big investment. Unless, of course, you can afford it and you won't mind
having a big screen TV anyway if the boutique doesn't work out.
Best of luck,
Alison Armstrong
