My gallery/co-op sales vary WIDELY each month. I pay $50 a month and 5% commission in one place, and $40 and 40% in another. Some months, I don't make my rent payment back, and some months I'm making 300-500 dollars.... but you can't COUNT on it.
Part of what has helped me to continue to be able to afford to do gallery/co-op stuff is that I offer small price point items (cards - $4 and bookmarks $3) that will sometimes be the only income I made that month (sometimes $40 worth of cards, sometimes it's $95... you just never, never know).
I have created videos, and toyed w/ the idea of placing a DVD player by my spot, but: you need to rely on the personnel at the desk to turn it ON each day, and if you've got music in the video, (which I do... it's integral to the video itself) they'll get TIRED of the music pretty quickly. And... there's always the concern about someone walking off with your DVD player tucked under their arm....
Just a few thoughts from someone who's out there, doing what you're talking about. Feel free to write me directly if you think I can offer any more input.
Light and laughter,
Deb Booth
