Had the same experience with Canon, and dumped them permanently. Now I use an Epson T40W with a continuous ink supply system, and for the time I am happy, even if it is not a big format though.

I have been using a Canon Pixma Pro 9000 and have been impressed with the quality of photographic prints. Unfortunately the print heads now refuse to move and Canon were not very helpful. If I could justify the expense I would purchase the Epsom 3800 A2 printer. Unfortunately, as I have spare inks for the Canon it will grudingly be the same again - but for the last time.

I use my Epson R1900 for most everything because it not only has amazing color but it is also a very well behaved printer.
