Re: [artshow_photo] Apology to Group

One thing I would suggest is to deepsix the Norton AV, and get something good that actually WORKS, such as AVG.

I had a laptop at work a few years back that kept insisting there "MAY" be a problem, and to scan it with Norton AV (the problem message was from the AV program itself). Even with updated definition files, it found absolutely nothing on the laptop.

I had my copy of McAfee in my CD folder in the toolbag, and installed it on another machine in the office, and scanned the laptop over the office network--something Norton can't do...at least in the version in use then.

After finding and removing over 900 infected files from the laptop, McAfee declared it clean...not to mention it was a driveling idiot that needed a complete drive wipe and reload.

Norton AV is garbage...not worth the price and aggravation. McAfee is not much better, since the early 2000s. Three are a lot better ones out there, for a LOT lower price...and even some free ones, like AVG Free.

Do yourself a favor, and quit throwing good money down the drain on Norton.

Regards,

Mark

Subject: [artshow_photo] Apology to Group

Hi there - I am writing to apologize for the no-subject, spam hyperlink email that got sent from my hotmail account to the group (and everyone in my contacts list) on Friday night. It was NOT from me... and oddly enough, I was sitting AT my computer when it happened. I looked up from printing notecards and saw I had 54 undeliverable mail notifications. I hadn't sent ANY email that evening, so I was more than a bit taken aback.

And then I was angry and embarrassed. I changed my hotmail password immediately. The hack job came thru hotmail, NOT thru my computer, as my Norton antivirus is up to date, and my anti-mal-ware program was working and indicated no issues.

Does anybody have any suggestions as to how to avoid such issues in the future? IS there any way to avoid it, other than regularly changing one's password, and maintaining an up-to-date virus protection program?

know it's happened to others on this forum, and I know it will happen again to some other unsuspecting, innocent soul - but you all have my sincere apologies for any inconvenience this instance may have caused you.
Light and laughter,
Deb Booth
