In essence, a dust cover is essential for the back of wood frames. Black kraft paper is stronger and thicker than the brown colored paper. From any framing establishment (or online) you can purchase special two sided adhesive tape, plus an applicator. You can also purchase a special blade cutter to trim your backing once in place. It leaves an 1/8" border. The tape plus the tools are made specifically for applying dust covers. These tools are relatively cheap, and can make your final piece look more "professional," not to mention making your framing chores a little less difficult.

Downside to using dust covers is that they are intended to be permanent. If you see yourself wanting to interchange frames and prints frequently, I'd strongly recommend using metal frames instead. As long as your backing is solid and smooth, such as white or black foamcore, the finished product still looks good from the back. One CAN change out a wood frame, but it is time consuming, and wastes materials.

For a back label, I use, and recommend, the Avery 5164 (3.33 x 4"), or the store-brand version, which is always cheaper. It's an ideal size for the back of a frame. In Word, you can add a border plus drop shadow to your label, which really dresses it up. I also use this same label for bin tags, etc. Avery makes a special version which I now use, which is 100% opaque. You can apply it over another label with no bleed-thru.
