[artshow_photo] Re: How do you Finish Your Framed Prints on the Back?

> I am wondering how you all finish off your framed prints. When I use a wooden frame with a wire hanger, it is usually the foamcore backing or a black backing that might be sold with the frame that is visible on the backside. Very professional framing uses a sheet of craft paper which is glued to the back to keep out dust, and this gives a nice finished look to the frame. Do most of you do that, or do you just leave the foam core or black backing as it is?

With wooden frames, I use black Tyvek instead of craft paper. You can also get gray or white barrier paper in rolls, from United Manufacturers. The Tyvek costs more, but it is very durable, and punctures less. I have business card sized sticky-back labels that go on the outside of the backing with my contact information on them - they duplicate my business card.

I also adhere a white label with the image name, location, edition number and size, size of the print and copyright information on the back of the backing board. The print is signed and numbered under the mat, and the front of the mat is signed, titled and numbered.

I use a carbonless form with a combination receipt and COA at shows -- the top half lists the print information as well as the purchaser's address and contact info. The bottom half is the text of my COA, with a signature. Each form is signed at the time of sale, and the original goes with the customer, while the carbon stays with me as a record of the sale. After the show, the purchase information is transferred to a database. It would be lovely to do this electronically.

There isn't any right or wrong way to do it -- whatever you're comfortable with. You are on the right track.
