Hi Alison:
I highly recommend a wide-screen projector (higher than XGA).
I also recommend a 3 chip projector over a DLP projector, but that will usually add some weight and cost. My friend recently bought this one and it's a great choice (it's about $1800): Canon REALiS SX800 SXGA+
I would look at this one as well:
Epson PowerLite 1925W -It has DVI, so you can get a DVI to HDMI cord.

I also recommend checking the life of the bulbs in both modes, as well as the cost of a replacement bulb. It's good to have one standing by just in case. Most importantly, see if you can buy from a retailer with no (or very low) restocking fees if it does not meet your expectations.
