I think it's kinda like saying "Kleenex" for 'tissue', and "Jello" for 'gelatin', and "Xerox" for 'copy'. It's become a standard bit o' slang. Not much anyone can do about it, other than act as an educator regarding the intricacies involved, and the need for some creativity along WITH the wonderful tool of Photoshop. I don't think there is any reason to consider it a devaluation of the program, or of the products it creates.
I am a proud Photoshopper. I admit it freely, and I share that with my clients and students.

In my opinion, using "photoshop" or "photoshopped" (sic) as generic terms without the proper capitalization reduces the value of Adobe's Photoshop trademark. As artists who live off our own intellectual property, should we contribute to that devaluation?

I am not connected with Adobe other than as a satisfied customer.
