Tracy,
Very good comment and observation. When the thread was about people coming into a booth
and asking questions I was somewhat put-off by those who said we should charge them for
our time. To me that is very standoffish (a new word?) and perhaps arrogant. This is providing
we are not ignoring other customers which gives us a good excuse to get away from a talker.
I think most artists who have done shows realize the extensive amount of work that goes into
participating in the shows and should realize that others may admire our techniques and images
but who will never be able to enter a show or reproduce what we have done. We should be tolerant.
I love to talk to young photographers especially to give them ideas and encouragement.
Jerry

I was attending a commmunity festival a month ago and I ran into a great photographer who had a booth there. I've been doing photography for quite some time and think that I've gained some proficiency at it. Rarely am I moved to purchase another photographer's work, but this gentleman's photos were amazing. He'd worked hard over the years perfecting his technique of rich tonal , ethereal quality. I told him how much I admired his work and we struck up a 30 minute conversation. The gentleman was just that, and shared his perspective, techniques, etc. with me, as he could tell I was also an advanced photographer. I purchased 3 images from him, and they are hanging in my home. He is now only one of two photographers who have work on the walls of my home (besides me). He told me that he's been photographing and teaching for years, and invited me to view his website and perhaps sign up for one of his workshops, which I intend to do.
My point in all of this is that, IMHO, true masters are almost always willing to share info with other professionals and do not feel threatened by it. And that's part of the reason that we have groups such as this. To share information and to help each other improve his or her own craft .

Although I am new to this group, it IS a good source of information and I appreciate everyone's comments (well most everyone)
don't let a few bad apples ruin the harvest. Like in most groups, there is always one or two who like to start fights and berate others. I just try to filter out the noise. and move on.
