It has a number of radars and a few show wind Red means wind coming towards you
and gree away.  So if there is green inside red there is trouble.   However one
nice thing for art fairs is it shows wind velocity.  There  were clouds and
storms in the area my last fair and the wind was stiffining but was only a small
line.  I told the rest to relax as it was only a small little gust front,
nothing to worry about. 

To answer your question - if yu are a complete novice and never watch the
weather on TV it my not be for you, it's pretty powerful and since I have my own
online weather station perhaps I take it for granted on others knowledge.

www.weather.com has a nice free simple app for rain and there were other
suggestions that are nice.  The Weather underground was mentioned (I'm a member
of the weather underground).

Would the non-weather geek have easily recognized the same thing you saw
with Radarscope or was it your expertise that made the app more dependable?

kept telling people "LOOK - there is circulation, why has the weather
bureau not put out warnings, I guarantee a tornado will come out of this."

Half hour later people were literally fleeing the glass,no basement
building.
