Personal experience tells me it is still bad out there. Despite the fact
that our house will be paid for in 7 years it is still worth less than we
owe on it and less than what we paid for it. And we are moving to Virginia
because my husband got laid off from his job down here. So we can't sell
the house here and I have to dip into retirement savings to buy a house
there. The rent we will get from the house here will barely cover the
mortgage there. It is a huge stack of cards that any kind of an unexpected
expense can topple. Absolutely we are not spending any extra money. My
biggest luxury right now is eating lunch out with my co-workers once a week.
