You can just refuse to let them search,
"I do not consent to a search"
This might result in them holding you until they bring up a dog for a drug
search. Most people just allow themselves to be intimidated and give
permission. Even people who --know-- that they have something incriminating
in the vehicle weirdly enough. If they arrest you they can search only for
dangerous objects...knives guns ect. Otherwise they must have probable cause
if you refuse permission.
Just keep up the mantra: "Am I under detention? And am I free to leave?"
And: "I choose to remain silent and want to see a lawyer".
And answer no questions.....
