I had to unload my entire trailer once when entering my own state, Nevada.
It was after an Arizona show and at that time the Hoover Dam was the only
entry point. After 9-11 they stopped every single vehicle to say howdy and
randomly pulled trailers and trucks to be searched thoroughly. Lucky me!
'Twas about midnight when I finally got to the inspection point, smiled
and.got the "pull over, ma'am" sign. Crap.
After a long third day in Phoenix, tearing down, and a six hour drive, I get
this.
I dutifully unloaded my trailer, opened EVERY SINGLE box as requested and
watched as u-hauls and box trucks were waived right on by. Baby faced
Halliburton rent-a-cop watched and inspected. Finally he said, "nice art
work" and I was left in the cold and howling wind to reload
everything--AGAIN.
I learned two things that night, never again did I drive six hours after
tear down and never again did I take that route into Vegas. Now we have a
bypass, thankfully.
All part of the biz, I guess.

Several times when I have done shows in Texas, I've seen cops with hands on
hips overseeing young men dragging everything out of their vehicle and onto
the roadside, presumably in a search for drugs. I consider this a travesty
of freedom, and I have not observed this in any other state. My nightmare
would be to be stopped on the way to a show, and having to haul everything
out of my van to satisfy a cop. One reason I don't particularly like doing
shows in Texas. And I guess I'll have to add Arizona to that list.
