Marketing.

Yes, that's my answer because marketing is the thing that makes or breaks most businesses. If you get a good link in it may work for you almost forever and a bunch of links in will HELP you market your website or blog so that you can then have a chance at licensing your images or making money off ads or whatever works for you.

The one thing I know is that someone will have to market your images, so unless you are with Getty Images or some other major image seller that is doing good work for you it will be up to you, and like becoming an excellent photographer there are many small skills to learn.
